History

Scorpions 1971 to the present day
04 Apr 2007

The late Mr Andy Barry founded the Scorpions back in 1971/72 with just one team. With the help of Mr John Walkden and the late Mr Barry Vaughen they supplied the platform for the club to grow from. The players of our club owe these men a debt of gratitude for without their foresight and early efforts the club would not be what it is today. Andy Barry retired from the club about 6 years ago after giving around 36 years of commitment to us but he is still the first to ask how we are doing with ‘his’ club. We will always be in his heart.

Over the years managers and club officials have come and gone doing their bit whilst serving our club. However in recent years with a strong backbone of experienced and committed members we have developed into a stable forward thinking going places outfit with aspirations and goals to attain quality coaching and facilities for our players and the local community. We have new managers and assistants joining our cause annually and the support for them is there from the wealth of experience of current members. Several of our committee and club management have 15 to 24 years of involvement with the Scorps and a lot more in football before that.

Today we have 7 competing teams from under 11 to 18 and 8 small-sided teams in the boys’ section and girls sides at under 11 14 and 16 but this is not the end.

Two years ago we attained our FA Charter Standard Developement Club Status and are in the process of qualifying for the Comunity Club Award. Part of the criteria is for all our managers and club officials to gain the FA Level 1 coaching qualification this has been achieved in the main with just recently joined members waiting for a suitable course to come up. From this some members have carried on to gain further qualifications in coaching to assure the continuity of good quality education for our youngsters. We now have 6 level 2 FA qualified coaches and 1 uefa B standard which is an entitlement to coach professional footballers.

Summer of 2005 saw us receive the keys for our new changing and meeting facility at our Langdale Drive venue following securing funding from the Football Foundation in the region of £486,000.00 along with matched funding from Doncaster MBC, and sponsorship of parts of the buildings roof structure from South Yorkshire Roff Trussess.

The future permanence and progress of our club rests upon us moving forward and setting our goals to give first class coaching to our young boys and girls. To this end, in addition to the above course we are programmed for individual persons in our club to attend various other courses such as administration, fund raising, marketing, first aid, sport injuries to name just a few all with a view to improving standards within our club.

After securing the FA Charter Development Club Standard Award and with new changing facility and ground improvements on Langdale Drive and the commitment to attain the FA Community Club Award shows our commitment to our younge players and local community.

We are sure the future is bright the future is orange, Scorps orange that is.
