Biography

My first involvement with the Scorpions was way back in the early 1970s when the late Andy Barry asked me to help him with the training of his Under 13s which I did, we were lucky enough to get to the cup final against Rossington and we won 1-0.

I then got into refereeing due to the Scorps and in my first season although not being qualified I was asked to ref the supplementary cup final.
Then it was the turn of my son Paul to play for the Scorps his first manager being Bernie Cox then later managed by John Jones. Bernie and John gave many years of there time to the Scorps both moving on to bigger things still within football, Bernie on the boys league management committee and now Chairman of the League and John assessing referees in the football league.

I moved into managing various teams for the Scorps and retired from that position in 2006 after 20 odd years. I have been Chairman of the Scorpions since 1999 and very proud I am to.
When I sit back and reflect on what we used to have and what we have now it is very satisfying. In the early years we got changed in a garage in a garden backing onto the Langdale field, in the early nineties we progressed to a porta-cabin that served us well until the completion of our new facility in 2005, now we have what must be the best changing facility in the league, this after 8 years of very hard work with various authorities and funding bodies.

I have the great privilege of working with in my opinion the best secretary in the league Geoff Harmer and also a great hard working committee who all work tirelessly for the good of the Scorps. We all love what we are doing and let�s not forget it�s for the kids that we do it, as long as they are enjoying it and playing with a smile on there faces this is what counts.
